In this week’s Community ProjeX, Harry chats to Shaunak Vyas, founder, director, and embedded system design engineer at EmbVerse. 

After starting his professional engineering journey with open-source technical blogs, Shaunak’s talents were recognised, and after a few years freelancing, he set up EmbVerse, a company that specialises in industrial automation, home automation, and automotive systems, still keeping that open-source mentality. 

Due to the confidentiality of client work, Shaunak could not share some of his most exciting projects, so instead, he gave us a glimpse into the continued open-source blog content that is EmbVerse’s way of supporting design engineers in their electronics journey. In this ProjeX, Shaunak and Harry discuss a wide range of topics, including an open-source Modbus RTU C library that EmbVerse developed for use with microcontrollers, developing a robot operating system and the implementation of Bluetooth control/communication with a desktop Linux system, and evaluating the behaviour of sensors via models during development. 

Shaunak also talks about his approach to learning and the importance of patience when selecting components or writing code – if you start in a rush, problems that arise later become harder to solve due to backtracking, which results in more time-consuming redesigns. He also highlights some key differences between working in the USA and Europe versus working in India.
