At CES 2026, MountAIn introduced the MountAIn IBEX autonomous AI vision sensor, a rugged edge AI camera designed for industrial assets located far beyond fibre, Wi-Fi, or 5G coverage.
Most AI vision systems assume constant power and high-bandwidth backhaul. IBEX does not.
MountAIn built the platform for customers operating pipelines in deserts, forests prone to wildfire, hydroelectric dams, and freight containers at sea. These environments often lack both reliable connectivity and continuous power. The solution is to run AI locally and transmit only metadata, not video.
Instead of streaming footage, the MountAIn IBEX autonomous AI vision sensor performs inference at the edge and sends structured events such as smoke detected, vehicle detected, or two faces identified. This reduces bandwidth, lowers energy consumption, and enables operation in remote locations.
Ultra-Low-Power Architecture
IBEX is powered by microcontrollers from Alif Semiconductor, designed specifically for energy-efficient edge AI.
The architecture separates power domains inside the chip:
- A low-power domain for continuous monitoring
- A high-performance domain that wakes instantly for heavier AI workloads
This duty-cycling approach allows the system to scan continuously at minimal power, then switch to high-performance processing only when relevant activity is detected. That balance is what makes autonomous deployment realistic.
Industrial Use Cases
MountAIn reports traction in:
- Wildfire detection
- Pipeline monitoring
- Snow level measurement for hydroelectric production forecasting
- Freight and container tracking
Unlike typical AI cameras that depend on fibre or 5G, IBEX integrates hybrid terrestrial and satellite connectivity, enabling operation across global infrastructure networks.
Deployment Workflow
Engineers train models using their preferred cloud AI platform, then export via MountAIn’s development kit. The company positions itself as the bridge between model training and efficient embedded deployment.
The result is a system built for real industrial AI, not consumer surveillance. The MountAIn IBEX autonomous AI vision sensor focuses on autonomy, efficiency, and deployment in environments where traditional connectivity assumptions break down.
MountAIn is launching the platform commercially in Q1 2026 following its CES debut.
For engineers designing remote monitoring systems, IBEX represents a shift in architecture.
