μ-velOSity is Green Hills Software’s smallest Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) for highest levels of security certification and functional safety in microcontroller architectures. Key application areas include industrial, automotive, railways, IoT, and medical, with the following certifications available to reduce development time and time to market:

  • Automotive ISO 21434 and ISO 26262 ASIL D
  • Industrial IEC 61508 SIL 3
  • Railway EN 50128 SIL 4

In addition to providing the highest levels of safety and security, μ-velOSity offers an efficient, reliable kernel with memory protection, fast boot, fast execution, and a simple API. This RTOS also enables drivers, applications, and middleware to run outside of the kernel space, as well as memory isolation, meaning that important portions of the embedded system can be protected during invasive firmware rewrite tasks such as Over-The-Air (OTA) updates.

Currently, μ-velOSity supports Arm Cortex-M4(F), -M7(F), -R5(F), and -R52 MCU architectures, each with a Memory Protection Unit (MPU), in addition to the RISC-V RV32 IMC extended instruction set. It is available in three predefined builds optimised for speed, size, or debug functionality, but Green Hills Software can provide custom builds to meet specific application requirements, with support for additional MCU architectures in future.
