Note: ONiO are only accepting projects of a minimum of 1,000,000 annual units.

ONiO’s ONiO.zero MCU presents engineers with a compact, highly integrated basis for designing IoT products with batteryless operation. It features everything one would expect from a general-purpose microcontroller – standard interfaces, GPIOs, wake-up functions, etc. – while adding a versatile energy harvesting circuit that automatically adjusts to serve RF, photovoltaic, thermoelectric, and piezoelectric energy sources. Key application areas include medical wearables, precision agriculture, smart buildings, and industrial IoT, where changing batteries is impractical as well as unsustainable.

The MCU core features a 16/32-bit RV32EMC RISC-V architecture with the following performance characteristics based on the wide 450 mV to 3.3 V supply range:

  • 32 MHz at 3.3 V
  • 6 MHz at 1.0 V
  • 1 MHz at 0.8 V

This core supports high code density with compressed instructions, with 1 kB of mask ROM, 2 kB of RAM, and 8/16/32 kB of ultra-low-power Flash memory. Read is available down to 850 mV supply voltage, and this memory is specified at 100,000 write operations. The crystal-less Bluetooth LE transmitter also operates from 850 mV supply voltage and features a programmable output from -40 to 0 dBm.

ONiO.zero’s integrated energy harvesting PMIC capabilities enable designers to build products without batteries for a sustainable IoT with significantly reduced maintenance requirements. This all-in-one solution also drastically reduces BOM for more than 80% less components in your design. The supported energy harvesting schemes are as follows:

  • 800/900/1800/1900/2400 MHz band RF energy harvesting with on-chip rectifier
  • Photovoltaic cells down to 400 mV (DC) output
  • Piezoelectric and thermal energy harvester with 1.8 V to 3.6 V output

ONiO.zero supports an industrial operating temperature from -40°C to 85°C, and the device features ESD protection for greater than 2 kV and latchup greater than 100 mA.
