For the Virtium Embedded Artists IMX8M Mini DX M1 SoM

The Virtium Embedded Artists IMX8M Mini DX M1 SoM is a production-grade system-on-module engineered for fast and scalable edge AI deployment. Combining the proven performance of an NXP i.MX8M Mini processor with a DeepX DX M1 neural network accelerator, this module gives embedded designers a reliable path to low-power inference without the complexity of external AI integration.

At the compute core is the NXP i.MX8M Mini, a quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU running up to 1.8 GHz, alongside a dedicated Arm Cortex-M4 core for real-time tasks. The SoM integrates up to 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and up to 64 GB eMMC flash, depending on configuration. Wireless connectivity options include Murata-supplied Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 modules, pre-mounted on select variants.

AI acceleration is handled by the DeepX DX M1, delivering up to 25 TOPS at just 5 W peak, enabling efficient vision processing at the edge. This accelerator supports standard quantised neural network models and is compatible with widely used AI toolchains. The SDK includes support for ONNX model import, along with C/C++ inference APIs and Python wrappers for evaluation.

The module exposes a robust set of interfaces, including:

  • 1x Gigabit Ethernet
  • 2x USB 2.0
  • MIPI-CSI camera input
  • PCIe and SDIO for expansion
  • I2C, UART, and GPIO for peripheral control

Power input ranges from 3.3V to 5V, with typical operating power between 3–5 W depending on AI workloads. Passive or minimal active cooling is sufficient for most applications.

Software support includes a Yocto Linux BSP, device trees for common peripheral configurations, and DeepX SDK documentation. Engineers can begin development immediately using the provided reference carrier or integrate the SoM directly into custom hardware. Precompiled AI models and build-ready sample projects are also included.

The module is available in commercial (0–70°C) and industrial (-40–85°C) temperature variants. All manufacturing is handled via facilities in the USA and Vietnam, with flexibility for regional sourcing and tariff management.

With tight hardware/software integration, strong documentation, and scalable manufacturing, the Virtium Embedded Artists IMX8M Mini DX M1 SoM is ideal for engineers building vision-enabled robotics, smart medical devices, and industrial automation systems at the edge.
