Traco Power’s new TPI 125A-J Series 125 W open frame AC/DC switched-mode power supply, weighs just 156 g and is just over 1.2 by 2 by 3 inches in size – remarkably small and cost efficient. Along with a 3000 VAC reinforced isolation system, there is a peak power function which enables the unit to deliver up to 120% the rated power for up to 10 seconds, and the unit is designed to meet the ErP directive with a no load input power of <0.3 W. With a reliability of 790,000 hours (calculated MTBF) and a 3-year product warranty, it looks like such a unit will meet the design needs for end products with a long usage lifetime.
In terms of some of the more technical specifications, the series covers slightly adjustable output voltage options of 12, 15, 24, 36, and 48 VDC, all with a typical efficiency and switching frequency of 91-92% and 60 kHz respectively; the operating temperature is -40°C to +85°C. Traco Power do a few other options for similarly sized and specified products in different enclosure types, but at the 100 W power rating, the non-encapsulated options are the best bet for space- and weight-saving applications.
