From Idea to Edge AI: Grinn Streamlines IoT Product Development

Grinn, a development services company based in Europe, is doing more than just consulting on IoT projects. At Hardware Pioneers Max 2025, CEO Robert Radecki walked us through their two-pronged approach:

  1. Full-stack product development for IoT devices, from hardware and embedded software to manufacturing support.
  2. System-on-Modules (SoMs) designed for high-performance edge AI computing.

These modules are designed to eliminate the most common entry barriers for engineers looking to adopt edge AI.

Two Modules, One Goal: Powerful Edge AI for Everyone

Grinn’s current product line includes two standout modules:

🔹 AstraSon (Synaptics SL1680)

  • 8 TOPS NPU
  • Multi-core Cortex architecture
  • Solderable SoM, compatible with Synaptics SDK
  • Designed for smart camera systems and compute gateways
  • Supports Linux, with full support for model quantization and pruning

🔹 Genos (MediaTek Genio 700)

  • 4 TOPS NPU, 8-core CPU, integrated GPU
  • Built on a 6nm process
  • Also 43 x 37 mm—world’s smallest SoM with Genio 700
  • Supports advanced video and AI applications on the edge

Real-Time Processing at the Edge

What makes these modules stand out is their capability to process high-resolution video streams (1080p and beyond) in real time. According to Robert, most Grinn customers are building smart cameras that behave like AI-powered sensors—processing locally and only sending alerts or metadata to the cloud.

This edge-first approach not only reduces bandwidth and latency, but also improves privacy and battery efficiency when paired with external sleep sensors.

Plug-and-Play for Engineers New to Edge AI

Each module comes with a development kit, making it easy for engineers to get started. Grinn also supports multiple interfaces out of the box:

  • Ethernet and Power-over-Ethernet
  • PCIe expansion
  • Wi-Fi and camera modules via MIPI CSI
  • ADCs and GPIOs for direct hardware interaction

This broad I/O support allows seamless integration into smart industry, surveillance, and AIoT designs.

Where to Buy and How to Start

Grinn’s edge AI SoMs and dev kits are launching soon on:

  • RS Components
  • Digi-Key
  • Mouser
  • Distrelec and other local distributors

Developers can also contact Grinn directly via their website for tailored support and early access.

Grinn’s value proposition is clear: get AI on the edge running faster, with modules that pack industrial-grade performance into palm-sized packages. Whether you’re building a smart camera, AI gateway, or automated monitoring system, Grinn gives you the hardware—and support—to start strong.
