In the Sonic Edge solid-state speaker

The Sonic Edge solid-state speaker introduces a radical shift in audio technology by replacing the traditional vibrating membrane with an ultrasonic modulation process. Instead of physically moving a diaphragm at audible frequencies, Sonic Edge drives air at 400 kHz and then modulates this ultrasonic signal into the audio range, much like AM radio modulation.

This approach eliminates many of the limitations that mechanical speakers face, such as resonance issues and poor frequency response in small form factors. The result is a flat response across the human hearing range, from deep 20 Hz bass to crisp 20 kHz treble, delivered in a miniature package ideal for hearing aids, wearables, and compact consumer electronics.

From an efficiency perspective, the Sonic Edge solid-state speaker offers major improvements in the conversion of electrical energy to acoustic output. Traditional speakers often convert less than 1% of their mechanical energy into sound due to impedance mismatches. By operating at ultrasonic frequencies, Sonic Edge achieves up to 30–40% conversion efficiency, with overall acoustic efficiency exceeding 3% once modulation is accounted for — a significant leap compared to legacy drivers.

Integration is simplified through Sonic Edge’s complete chipset solution. The company provides not only the speaker chip itself but also a dedicated 2×2 mm ASIC amplifier capable of handling the ultrasonic carrier and audio modulation. This makes adoption feasible for device makers who require robust, small-scale audio performance without re-engineering entire systems.

Applications extend far beyond hearing aids. Any system constrained by size and power — such as smart glasses, wearables, IoT nodes with audio interfaces, or medical devices — can benefit from the Sonic Edge solid-state speaker. Its chip-scale, reliable design enables audio in contexts where traditional drivers would be too large, power-hungry, or distorted.

By bringing RF modulation principles into the audio domain, Sonic Edge has created a new class of speaker that is efficient, compact, and capable of pristine sound quality. This technology has the potential to redefine audio hardware in consumer and medical markets alike.
