Demo Kit For Novatek NT98530 Camera SoC With CEVA SP500 DSP

Novatek’s NT98530 SoC is a highly integrated device for multi-sensor camera systems with embedded AI functionality. The device boasts high image quality, low bitrate, and low power consumption at a competitive price point and supports up to 640 Mpixel/sec to achieve over 8 MPixel at 60 fps video performance while simultaneously performing advanced AI on each frame.

The NT98530 features:

  • 32-bit Quad Cortex A53 DDR4 / LPDR4*1 / 16 MPixels 30 fps (4Kp60)
  • AI: HW-CNN (Convolution Neural Network) + DSP 2.5 TOPS
  • DSP: CEVA SensPro2 500
  • Support for RGB-IR image fusion, AI scene detect, 5 sensor inputs & USB 3.0, and de-warping & stitching functions.

The integrated DSP, SensPro2 (SP500), is CEVA’s highly scalable and enhanced 2nd generation high-performance sensor hub DSP. It can be used for multitasked sensing and AI of multiple sensors, including camera, radar, lidar, time-of-flight, microphones, and inertial measurement units. SensPro2 delivers up to 6x DSP performance improvement in computer vision, 2x AI inferencing improvement, and 20% lower power consumption compared to its predecessor. This ensures that Novatek’s latest SoC has ample performance available to support even the most complex computer vision algorithms and neural network inferencing.

An advanced set of software libraries and development tools accelerates time to market and supports use of CEVA SensPro2 in multiple-sensor processing workloads for contextually aware devices in applications such as:

  • Automotive
  • Robotics
  • Surveillance
  • AR/VR
  • Voice assistants
  • Wearables
  • Mobile devices
  • Smart home/building

CEVA SensPro 2 is also ASIL-B automotive safety compliant with ASIL-D support, and it can be used in ADAS to recognise pedestrians, other vehicles, and environmental hazards.

ipXchange is aware of a Novatek development board that can be used to evaluate the performance of the NT98530 SoC in people/object tracking and recognition applications such as smart security, ADAS, and smart agriculture. While details of this board do not seem to be available online, at least not in English, if you are interested in evaluating this technology for a commercial application, fill out the form below, and ipXchange will put you in touch with more knowledgeable parties. CEVA also provides a toolchain to adapt their own neural networks for evaluation.

As a note, Novatek are currently only accepting projects worth 1 million units or more, so if you like the technology but are not looking for these quantities, ipXchange will recommend an alternative technology based on your project requirements.
