Asahi Kasei Microdevices’ (AKM’s) AK5816 and AK5818 60-GHz millimetre-wave radar transceivers both feature four transmit channels at up to 8-dBm output power and four receiver channels with 10-dB single-sideband noise factor. A low power consumption of 0.6 W is achieved thanks to an internal selector circuit for time division multiplexing.
The ultra-wide bandwidth also allows for FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) operations from 57-64 GHz, and the devices support in-built digital signal processing, including fast Fourier transforms, with additional processing output via serial communication. The ADC sampling speed is 53.3 Msps per channel, and the output data rate is 320 Mbps per lane.
The AK5816 and AK5818 devices are available in a 115-pin BGA package and are suitable for use in consumer electronics and IoT applications – including smart home and healthcare – and in-vehicle radar applications respectively (ISO26262 ASIL-B compliant).
