Semify SmartWave FPGA-Based SPI/I2C Host Adapter And Interfacing Device

Semify specialises in making useful tools to make engineers’ jobs easier. SmartWave presents an innovative, FPGA-based desktop module (86 x 67 x 32 mm) that can be used as an SPI/I2C host adapter. This enables instant communications with ADCs, DACs, sensors, and other devices that require testing and characterisation before design integration.

In addition to providing a flexible interfacing solution for components during testing, SmartWave can also be used to improve the precision and efficiency of interactions between peripherals and the heart of your build.

SmartWave includes the following connection options for easy interfacing of devices to be characterised, with 2x SPI drivers, 2x I2C drivers, and a maximum interface speed of 40 MHz:

  • 2x Pmod compatible connectors
  • 16x digital GPIO channels
  • Configurable I/O voltage from 1.8V to 5.0 V

These interfaces can be configured via the micro-USB connector and SmartWave’s WebGUI software for codeless programming – this can run online or locally on a PC. Signal simulation for testing the behaviour of peripherals is also possible using the 1-Msps waveform generator.

To help indicate the user configuration of the device, SmartWave features a colour display to show pin assignment and status information. There is also a trigger button for instant execution of testing signals, or other user-specified functionality.
