The i7A series of non-isolated DC-DC converters from TDK-Lambda presents a compact, low-cost alternative to isolated DC-DC converters used for step-down conversion in applications including industrial, test & measurement, broadcast, and telecommunications, with minimal external components required for integration. This and a compact footprint of just 34 x 36.8 mm (1/16th brick footprint) makes the i7A devices great for designers looking to reduce board-space requirements and component count.
The i7A devices provide engineers with a ready solution to obtain additional high-power outputs from a standard 12-, 24-, 36-, or 48-V DC supply. Several voltage input ranges are supported – 9-18 V, 18-32 V, and 18-60 V – for output powers of 400 W, 500 W, and 750 W, each with their own output voltage ranges:
- 400 W: 0.8-8 V output @ 60 A
- 500 W: 3.3-24 V output @ 33 A
- 750 W: 3.3-18 V output @ 45 A
TDK-Lambda’s i7A devices offer low output ripple, efficiencies of up to 98.5%, and operation in ambient temperatures of -40°C to +125°C with minimal airflow. Three mechanical configurations provide designers with a choice of thermal management solution depending on the space constraints of the project:
- Open frame for low profile – 11.5 mm tall
- Baseplate version for conduction cooling – 12.7 mm tall
- With integrated heatsink for air cooling – 24.9 mm tall
Additional features include an output voltage adjustment trim pin, remote sense functionality, remote on-off, input under-voltage detection, and protections against over-current and over-temperature, with an option for an adjustable overcurrent threshold.
Full specifications on the i7A series can be found in this official datasheet.
