Digi ConnectCore MP157 SoM And Development Kit

Digi’s ConnectCore System-on-Modules (SoMs) provide designers with a secure, compact heart for building long-lasting industrial-grade connected devices that run on embedded Linux – Digi Embedded Yocto provides a fully tested, reliable Linux solution for their ConnectCore product line. The MP157 SoM is based on an STMicroelectronics STM32MP157 MPU that features Arm dual Cortex-A7 cores running at 650 MHz, as well as a Cortex-M4 core running at 209 MHz. These are supported by up to 1 GB SLC NAND flash and up to 1 GB DDR3L memory.

As well as this processing power, the ConnectCore M157 SoM features all the power management features to run the module, seamless cellular modem integration capability, pre-certified dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. A 3D GPU running at up to 533 MHz for up to 26 Mtriangle/s or 133 Mpixel/s performance, 10/100 M or gigabit ethernet connectivity, and a wealth of peripherals/interfaces means that everything is included for designing a full-featured audio-visual HMI in an industrial IoT system– an idea of these at a glance can be gleaned from the evaluation board, detailed below.

Along with impressive hardware features, Digi’s M157 SoM features built-in Digi TrustFence security software, which enables easy integration of device security/identification functionality and adapts to new and evolving threats to ensure your IoT remains secure and protected. TrustFence features secure boot modes, hardware and network port protection against unwanted local intrusion, network authentication, secure online connections, and ongoing communications monitoring and support. Digi ConnectCore Cloud Services also support your project with device management, remote monitoring, and more.

This SoM is available in a 29 mm x 29 mm x 3 mm surface mount form factor, using 76-pad edge castellated pads (1.27 mm pitch) or 245-pad LGA (1.27 mm pitch) soldering connections for easy, reliable integration. This shares a high-level of pin-compatibility with Digi’s ConnectCore 6UL SoMs for those looking to upgrade or alter existing designs.

Digi’s ConnectCore MP157 Development Kit is a fully featured board for testing the MP157 SoC. It includes connections for HDMI display, LVDS display, MIPI display, Gigabit and 10/100 Mbit Ethernet, MIPI camera, 2x USB host, 1 x USB OTG, 2x CAN-FD, a MikroE Click board, MicroSD card, PCIe minicard with SIM card holder, audio input and output, and Digi XBee with cellular support. Console over USB, user buttons, and LEDs provide a good basis for initial testing before interfacing with other devices, and Digi provides reference designs and online documentation to help in your design/evaluation process. For those looking for a complete development solution using their products, Digi Wireless Design Services (WDS) offer all the expertise one could need to turn your idea into a reality.
