Digilent Nexys A7 Development Board For Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA

Note: This board can be used to prototype custom RISC-V architectures from Codasip.

Digilent’s Nexys A7 board is a complete, ready-to-use digital circuit development platform based on Xilinx’s Artix-7 FPGA, which features 15,850 programmable logic slices, each with four 6-input LUTs and 8 flip-flops, and Internal clock speeds exceeding 450 MHz. This central device also offers 4,860 kbits of fast block RAM, six clock management tiles, each with PLL, 240 DSP slices, and a dual-channel 1 MSPS internal XADC (Xilinx analogue mixed signal module). Additional on-board support is provided by 128 MB DDR2 RAM, serial Flash, and a microSD card slot to expand the memory.

The Nexys A7 is fully loaded with 10/100 PHY ethernet and USB connectivity, with options for JTAG, UART, and HID for connecting keyboards, mice, and memory sticks to the board. It also features 5x Pmod connectors, one for interfacing XADC signals, and four for accessing the 32 FPGA I/Os, enabling users to build a complete system with the Artix-7 at the centre.

To support immediate use in a wide variety of applications, this board also features a built-in 3-axis accelerometer, a temperature sensor, 12-bit VGA output, a MEMS PDM microphone, and a speaker amplifier for PWM audio output. For simpler visual displays, there are 2x 4-digit 7-segment displays, 16x LEDs, and 2x RGB LEDs, with 16 switches and 5 buttons for user-defined input.

This 110 x 122 mm board can be powered via USB or DC barrel jack using any 4.5-5.5 V external power source. More information on operating this device can be found in this reference manual.
