SparkFun and Digi have collaborated to create a complete kit for IoT prototyping with the help of Digi’s XBee Cellular modems and SparkFun’s Qwiic Connect System, which provides designers with a wide range of sensors and peripherals for faster product development in IoT applications that include smart home, smart building, smart agriculture, predictive maintenance, security, and more.
The key component in the kit is the XBee 3 cellular modem for global low-power LTE-M/NB-IoT and GNSS connectivity. A Hologram eUICC SIM card is included as part of the kit, and the device is FCC and CE certified for immediate deployment. XBee 3 features Digi TrustFence security to ensure your IoT is protected at all times, and Digi will soon be releasing two variants of the XBee 3 for global LTE Cat 1 and LTE Cat 4 connectivity.
This device supports MicroPython programmability and MQTT for networking with Microsoft Azure and AWS. Additional connectivity includes Bluetooth LE for beaconing and connectivity to the Digi XBee mobile app for local configuration, and 2G fallback for the cellular connectivity.
The SparkFun Digi XBee Kit comes with everything you need to get started, including all the required antennas and a SparkFun humidity sensor board with a cable to connect it to the main board. If you know of other sensors you are looking for to build your application, include them in the project description when filling out the form below.
