RAKwireless WisDuo RAK11720 LoRaWAN + Bluetooth LE Module Breakout Boards

Note: The RAK11720 module is pin-compatible with the RAK3172, which enables designers to add Bluetooth LE functionality to an existing RAK3172 design by simply swapping the RAK3172 for a RAK11720, without PCB redesign. The RAK11720 also comes with RAKwireless’ RUI3-based AT command firmware that is fully compatible with the RAK3172 and RAK4631-R for easy retrofitting.

RAKwireless’ RAK11720 is a stamp-sized (15 x 15.5 x 3.5 mm) LoRaWAN and Bluetooth LE module that comprises an Ambiq Apollo3 MCU with integrated Bluetooth LE (AMA3B1KK-KBR-B0) in combination with a Semtech SX1262 LoRa transceiver. The Ambiq Apollo3 MCU is based on an ARM Cortex-M4F supported by 1 MB Flash and 348 kB SRAM, with standard interfaces. This low-power module draws just 2.37 μA in sleep mode and is well suited for IoT applications such as home/building automation and sensor networks.

The modules’ LoRaWAN is 1.0.3 specification compliant and supports EU433, CN470, IN865, EU868, AU915, US915, KR920, RU864, and AS923-1/2/3/4 bands with a range of >15 km with an optimised antenna. The RAK11720 is available with MHF4 IPEX connectors for LoRa and BLE, or without the IPEX connector but with the option to connect your own antennas to the RF pins of the module.

The RAK11720 accepts a supply voltage from 1.8 V to 3.6 V and is suitable for use at temperatures between -40°C and 85°C. More information about the RAK11720 can be found in this datasheet.

As with the RAK3172, a breakout board is available that offers pin headers to access the pins of the RAK11720 for evaluation. This board also includes a chip antenna for BLE and an SMA connector for a LoRa antenna.

If you would like to evaluate the RAK11720 for use in a commercial application, fill out the form below, and ipXchange will put you in contact with RAKwireless for further correspondence regarding your project. This form can also be used to request an unmounted module for drop-in testing of the device in existing RAK3172 designs. For a slightly larger module that supports a USB interface and increased security, consider the RAK4630.
