Nordic Semiconductor nRF52833 Bluetooth Development Kit

This board supports Wirepas Connectivity Suite for 2.4 GHz mesh networking and development using Embeetle IDE.

Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF52833 is an ultra-low-power Bluetooth 5.3 SoC that supports Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth mesh, NFC, ANT, Thread, Zigbee, 802.15.4, and proprietary 2.4 GHz protocols. Extended features of Bluetooth connectivity include direction finding and simultaneous operation of mesh protocols with Bluetooth LE, enabling smartphones to provision, commission, configure and control mesh nodes.

Nordic’s device is qualified for deployment at temperatures between -40°C and 105°C, making it well suited for applications that include professional lighting, advanced wearables, and higher-value IoT devices such as asset tracking and industrial IoT, as well as smart home applications and gaming; robust coverage is supported by the device’s +8 dBm output power.

The nRF52833 includes a range of analogue and digital interfaces such as NFC-A, ADC, full-speed 12 Mbps USB 2.0, and high-speed 32 MHz SPI. The device has a 1.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage range to support powering the device from rechargeable batteries or over USB. Several power modes allow for extended battery life: For example, at 3 V input, the device consumes a mere 1.8 μA in System ON with full RAM retention.

A comprehensive list of specifications can be found in this product brief.

The nRF52833 DK is an affordable single-board development kit for the nRF52833 SoC. Arduino Uno Rev3 compatibility allows use of third-party shields during development, and access to all 42 I/Os and interfaces is provided via connectors. There is an integrated PCB trace antenna, an NFC antenna for testing the SoC’s NFC-A tag functionality, and an RF connector for direct RF test measurements.

The kit can be powered via USB or a wide range of other sources, within the supply range of 1.7 to 5.0 V. A CR2032 battery holder and a LiPo battery connector are present to enable field testing. Current consumption can be measured by using the dedicated current measurement pins.

For those wanting to learn more, further information on this development kit is detailed in this product brief.
