Würth Elektronik’s MagI³C Power FeatherWing provides designers using the popular Adafruit Feather development environment with an easy way to integrate high-voltage industrial control with 3.3-V and 5-V logic architectures, thanks to Würth Elektronik’s MagI³C DC-DC modules. Perfect for use in industrial IoT, medical, and test & measurement product development, or for evaluating the performance of Würth Elektronik’s MagI³C devices, the MagI³C Power FeatherWing – and Würth Elektronik’s other FeatherWings – speeds time to market with reliable sourcing for anyone choosing Würth Elektronik as a partner, thanks to a first-class global support network.
The MagI³C Power FeatherWing enables step-down conversion for industrial control inputs at 9, 12, 15, 18, and 24 V, with a maximum input voltage of 36 V. These inputs are converted to standard 5-V logic via Würth Elektronik’s MagI³C FDSM (173010535) module, with output at up to 1 A. This device is available in an L78x-series package for direct replacement of older linear regulators, without the requirement for a heatsink, and offers a simple design solution with peak efficiency up to 94% and <20 mVpp output voltage ripple, options for output at 3.3 V or 5 V, no minimum load requirements, and partially integrated in/out capacitors and inductors.
A second LGA-6EP-form-factor MagI³C VDMM (171010550) device provides conversion from 5 V to 3.3 V, with peak efficiency up to 96 %, 25 µA typical quiescent current, and low output voltage ripple at ±6 mV (typ.). Selectable by an onboard switch, an additional micro-USB connector can supply 5 V for down conversion testing for 3.3 V systems.
Both MagI³C devices offer standard protections and compliances with ambient temperature operation at up to +85°C. To learn more about these devices and the MagI³C Power FeatherWing, please consult this user manual.
